In response to a presidential executive order in Guatemala regarding spiking Covid-19 cases, our Living Water Adopt-A-Child (LWAAC) Guatemala ministry operations are pivoting to temporarily focus on food parcel distribution to ensure that the essential needs of our sponsored children, their families, and the widows and disabled we care for are met. Our medical and dental clinics — an integral part of our ministry since our ministry was founded in 1980 — will continue working to provide essential medical services. Also, we will be using our Blessing Field and churches to help the impoverished communities we serve.
Last week the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, issued the order in response to the surging Covid-19 cases that are overwhelming hospitals throughout the country. He imposed new nationwide restrictions until at least April 12-26, and these newly imposed regulations restrict public transportation and cease in-person classes, shopping and food services.
Just a couple of weeks ago, we were celebrating the thousands of hot meals being served every day in our newly reopened feeding programs. We were grateful to see the faces of our sponsored children as we served fried chicken, chiles rellenos, and other delicious, nutritious meals. Please join us in praying that our feeding programs will be allowed to open again soon.
While all of our Guatemala staff are working from home, our churches in Guatemala are allowed to remain open. Our churches are offering in-person services once each week.
As we continue to find new and creative ways to serve “the least of these,” please commit to praying with us and for us.
