At Living Water Adopt-A-Child, every visit to Guatemala becomes a testimony of God’s love and the power of Christ-centered community. Recently, team members and sponsors from around the world shared their experiences from being involved with our ministry.
Meeting Needs and Sharing God’s Love
National Coordinator for Adopt-A-Child in the UK and Ireland, Janice Wilby, described a heartwarming encounter she experienced with a widow in Guatemala. Despite the challenging journey across a riverbed to reach the widow’s home, the joy of connecting with her and sharing God’s love was unforgettable.
“She wasn’t sure who kept sending her gifts and letters,” Janice shared, “but she hoped to meet us one day to thank us. It was wonderful to tell her how much God loves her.”
Janice’s story perfectly reflects the heart of our ministry: serving people not just to meet their physical needs but to introduce them to the transformative love of Jesus.
Sponsorships That Change Lives
Peter from Germany spoke of meeting the child he sponsors.
“I’m impressed by the work [Living Water] Adopt-A-Child does,” he said. “It’s a beautiful country, and it’s a privilege to support such meaningful work.”
For Jamie Orr from South Carolina, sponsorship is deeply personal. After sponsoring a child in 2015, Jamie and her family extended their support to the child’s four siblings and later their widowed mother.
“It’s been a privilege to be involved in their lives,” she says.
Discipleship and Empowerment
Jared and Lisa who visited from Florida, highlighted how our ministry bridges relationships through feeding programs.
“They build connections with the community, discipling children and empowering them to minister to their own people,” Jared shared.
The couple found joy in seeing children leave feeding programs with full bellies and happy hearts.
For Ashley, also from Florida, bringing her 15-year-old daughter to Guatemala was a profound experience.
“The people’s gratitude convicted me to have more gratitude in my own life. Their joy over the little we did for them was overwhelming,” she said.
Jesus at the Center
Esther Tager from Northern Ireland reflected on our ministry’s Christ-centered approach.
“The focus is on extending God’s Kingdom, enabling people to accept Jesus and become part of God’s family,” she said. Esther shared a touching moment of gifting a dress to a young girl.
“Her joy and gratitude warmed my heart—a moment I will never forget.”
