Making a difference is more than simply meeting a physical need. At Living Water Adopt-a-Child (LWAAC), we are passionate about making a holistic, continuing impact on the lives of children around the world.
While all charity work seeks to fulfill a physical need, Christian charity takes it one step further: it touches the hearts of those we serve. We believe that true charity is rooted in the love of Christ and the message of hope that He brings. Behind every meal, every cup of water, and every medical service offered, we are sowing the seeds of eternal impact … and making a difference that stands the test of time.
1. Providing Sustainable Resources
It is important to our Christian mission work that when we provide communities with resources, we are ensuring those resources are sustainable. At LWAAC, we believe in the importance of educating people in local communities on proper hygiene, maintaining clean water sources, and more, so they are empowered to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
All mission work is impactful. When it is sustainable, it ensures that the impact is felt for a lifetime.
Looking to partner with us in providing sustainable resources to our beloved Guatemalan families? Consider donating to our special construction project fund! We are building a church in Xojola, Guatemala, to provide them with a permanent space for generations to come. Every dollar goes towards making a difference within a local Christian community–ensuring that growth can continue sustainably.
“But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:17-18, ESV)
2. Engaging Long-Term With the Culture
Christian mission work doesn’t just provide a meal and call it quits. We delight in the gift of forming lasting connections with those who we serve. Our staff and volunteers are on the ground, day in and day out, to engage meaningfully with the culture. Through child sponsorship, children are able to form connections with their sponsors that they carry with them for years to come.
These long-term connections are a realization of Christ’s vision for the church: to unify the body of Christ in every corner of the earth.
“ … That they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” (John 17:23, ESV)
3. Equipping Local Christian Leaders
One of the most important ways we create a lasting impact within communities is by equipping local churches with pastors from their own culture. We support pastors in Guatemala and Albania by providing biblical training, mentorship, prayer, and financial support.
Want to see the Kingdom flourish and have a lasting impact? Support a local pastor in Guatemala or Albania so they can continue to shepherd lost souls in their own communities.
“Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.” (Acts 20:28, ESV)
4. Focusing on the Whole Person, Not Just a Part
Christian mission work seeks to reach the whole person, not just a part. We are called to minister to both the physical and the spiritual needs of those we reach, for every person is created in the image of God and bears a soul that desperately needs Him to be whole.
While secular charities meet important physical needs, they often fail to penetrate deeper into the real spiritual thirst of those they serve. Christian charity work goes deeper by ministering to the physical needs as well as the deeper spiritual ones.
By ministering to the whole person, we become the love of Jesus on display and leave those we serve with something permanent: an identity in Christ.
“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” (Mark 8:36, ESV)
5. Penetrating Hearts With Hope
To the precious children we serve, the gifts they receive are a rare glimpse of stability and immense joy. It is more than medical care and meals; it is hope that continues for generations. Whether it’s giving a Bible from the M25 Catalog, donating to a special construction project like our church in Xojola, becoming a church partner, or sponsoring a child, each and every act of generosity fuels our mission of sharing the hope of the gospel with children in Guatemala and Albania.
Christian missions are the mission of hope … and hope satisfies far after the food is gone from their plate.
Leaving a Legacy That Lasts
Christian charity is more than a temporary fix; it is leaving a legacy that lasts for generations. With each meal or gift we provide, we are spreading the love of Christ and reaching the lost with permanent hope.
By sponsoring a child, you are not just helping them overcome extreme poverty–you are fulfilling Christ’s call to care for “the least of these.” Please consider joining us in our mission to leave a legacy that lasts for generations to come!
